Last February 10, 2011, Professor Jacques Marescaux, Founding President of the IRCAD and Head of Department of Digestive and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospital of Strasbourg, along with Professor Bertrand Ludes, Dean of Strasbourg’s School of Medicine and Director of Strasbourg’s Forensic Medicine Institute, were awarded the Gold Medal of the French Renaissance by François Simonnet, President of the French Renaissance Alsace. The ceremony took place at the IRCAD’s Charles Lindbergh auditorium among a gathering of 150 invited guests.

The mission of the French Renaissance is to protect and ensure the influence of the French language and culture in all its aspects, both in France and in French-speaking countries, to promote and assist individual and collective initiatives contributing to the enhancement of the French cultural heritage, and notably of its language in the scientific, technological and practical domains.
